Houston-based blues and rock musician Guy Schwartz joins us in interview and performance. Schwartz is also a songwriter, producer, videographer, music journalist and archivist, and a political activist. He is backed up on rhythm guitar and vocals by singer-songwriter and bandleader Billy Bourbon (The Billy Bourbon Band) who also plays guitar in Guy's Austin Affordables, bassist Roger Tausz of the New Jack Hippies, and percussionist Rick Lyon. Also featured on the show is Marlo Blue, an audio-video producer and a news anchor at KPFT-FM in Houston.
Guy Schwartz has played with rock and blues legends and his groups have included the progressive underground band, Relayer, formed in 1977; the power-pop band Z-Rocks, started in 1980; and the New Jack Hippies, which toured the U.S. and Western Europe from 1999-2004 and still performs regionally in Texas. Schwartz also produces a cable-television show on Texas music and musicians, and is producer and creator -- with Marlo Blue -- of the annual Houston indie music and video festival, South By Due East. Schwartz and Billy Bourbon recently recorded the album, “Weed at Walmart.”
